I recommended to a colleague in his early 20s that he should watch "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and he asked me "Why?" To that I responded: Because you grew up with few positive depictions of the future. Also, the pacing is slow. Media has become very rapid fire to compete with attentions that have been shaped by internet usage. Star Trek is very peaceful in it's pacing. Also, the cast of characters is wide and they are all likeable/interesting which I think is rare. TNG is a great show, man

Choosing a server for mastodon was interesting. It was a game of "Which weirdos do you want to ally yourself with?" Thankfully there was a Trekkie server. I think Trekkies have been on the spearhead of new technology since the 60s. Some of the first video games were directly influenced by Star Trek. I imagine many early internet groups were based around Stark Trek fandom. Let's all take a moment to appreciate and thank them for being early adopters to push platforms beyond a place for perverts.
