Encrypted Captain's Log, Stardate 48295.3. I am about to embark on a Starfleet mission to explore the Delta Quadrant and meet new allies. Due to current political tensions at Starfleet Headquarters, this mission is kept top secret in the likely event of a loss of the crew.
To minimize risks of leak, the crew has not been informed of this mission, and the complement limited to a regular mission's equipment.

The only exception to that last statement is a temporal supertransmitter that allows me to communicate via a 21st century Earth's communication channel called “Mastodon”; which will be read by my contact at Starfleet Headquarters.
