well the Stargate (1994) movie was interesting, not sure if it is 10 seasons of a TV show, interesting
@guinan Ooh, retro sci-fi! I watched the whole thing with Tom Paris. The 1994 film, SG-1, Atlantis and Universe. (Also a few episodes of Infinity).The 1994 film, SG-1 and Atlantis are pretty cool.
@guinan Stargate is my favourite Scifi franchise. I would definitely give SG-1 a shot. Also, the casting of SG-1 is really good. Better than the movie.
It's a very chronological show and new things are introduced over time, so you should watch it in order. That also means it keeps getting better over time. Let me know if you have any questions.
@guinan The movie and the TV show are pretty much nothing alike. They joke about it during the series.
"It's O'Neill, with two Ls. There's another O'Neil with only one L and he has no sense of humor at all."
@guinan And even early SG-1 tries to be kinda serious, but around season three they break out a lot of the parody/comedy stuff.
In the end, I feel like Stargate turned into a love letter to science fiction fans of all franchises. They joke about a lot of television tropes, reference Star Trek and other franchises mercilessly, and ridicule their own bad decisions from when they made the show.
@guinan @ocdtrekkie A good part of that change is from when SciFi bought the rights from Showtime.
@guinan it's about six seasons of TV show interesting, then another few of one of the spinoffs. Definitely not 10 seasons of the original.
@guinan the show was fantastic!
