It's mathematically true that 1/1000 of a year is about 8.77 hours, you can work it out yourself (24 * 365 / 1000 ~= 8.77). On-screen canon makes it pretty clear that ship time is kept by standard 24/26 hours, however, so if that's what you've been doing it's technically canonically "right," just kind of a missed opportunity with stardates lining up as neatly as they do.
