Very Important, but: death, fascism

Yesterday a man put himself in a position to be murdered by cops.

Here's (allegedly) his own words why. You must read this. It will hurt, regardless of your background and beliefs. The author of this text is dead now, because he chose to die, for the reasons here.

@ajroach42 This made me think of you, and here's why:

I can't print this out in a way that wouldn't be readily trackable back to me. I have no means of anonymously physically reproducing this.

Fuck. That.

Willem van Spronsen armed himself with an assault rifle and allegedly firebombs and used them to damage ICE property in Tacoma, Washington.

He did it knowing he would die, and he did it because it was the right thing to do.

Let us not forget his name as we forgot Rev. Charles Moore. Spread his name, his actions, his messaging. Make people aware. A man was willing to die because he thought you should hear him.

Hear him.

In my OP and a couple responses I said read this, hear this.

That's not enough. Talk about this. Regardless of if you agree with it, talk about it. Look at the news. It's about our president insulting our congressfolk, and about people peacefully resisting ICE. This man's death is being ignored, which is why you must talk about it.

A man died to resist our concentration camps, we can't let that pass us by.

@emsenn I'm still waking up, and I have some thoughts I need to catch before they dissipate.

I will come back to this and think about it when I am more awake.

Very Important, but: death, fascism

@ajroach42 lol sorry - I wasn't looking to discuss just point out the connection as I saw it. Enjoy your "morning."

Very Important, but: death, fascism

@emsenn Thanks.

"Anonymous" printing is a difficult thing because most printers have some form of watermarking built in to them.

Sometimes from the manufacturer, sometimes just as a condition of having been used a lot.

Certain letters printed at certain positions on my dot matrix printer are printed incorrectly every time. It's minor, you wouldn't notice without looking for it. Over a large enough print run, though, a pattern emerges.

@emsenn Sharing things safely is really difficult.

Very Important, but: death, fascism

@ajroach42 Recently I've been thinking that this is where the power of folk music is - easy to remember, thus share, ideas.

Ideological petnames.

Very Important, but: death, fascism

@emsenn I've been listening to a lot of Josh White recently. (fascinating man, ruined by the red scare)

Early in his career, he sang the blues and spirituals. Later in his career, he sang the blues and spirituals, with the lyrics re-worked to be about social justice.

Power in those ideas.

@ajroach42 I've wondered if viral tweets are the folk verse of our day but because they're repeated with a click, they aren't actually internalized the same.

(I'm using folk to mean really any sort of folk song, from hymnals to whatever)

@emsenn @ajroach42

Yeah, it’s weird. There’s a lot that we feel intensely, but only briefly before we’re on to the next thing.

The power maybe lies in the repetition. Any single tweet/toot/blorp is fleeting but when we see the same idea repeatedly it begins to make an impression.

@ajroach42 @emsenn Depending on how much, the solution might be libraries.

Or failing that, hotels.

Hotels have everything. You just have to ask nice.

Very Important, but: death, fascism

@ajroach42 @emsenn OOI does this happen if you take the colour cartridges out?

Very Important, but: death, fascism

@marnanel
@emsenn
I don't have any color printers.

Very Important, but: death, fascism

@ajroach42 @emsenn Oh okay. I thought the inaccuracies were done with coloured ink.

Very Important, but: death, fascism

@ajroach42 @emsenn I think I missed the "dot matrix" bit.

Printers; Unintentional tells

@marnanel @emsenn I hav ea dot matrix printer and a laser printer.

Each of them has a tell that makes it likely that printed materials came from it. Specifically, the laser printer leaves a series of small dots in a specific pattern on every sheet of paper. This has persisted across drums, so I expect that it's actually something in the printer's firmware.

Printers; Unintentional tells

@ajroach42 @emsenn this has fascinated me for a while. Are the dots in colour? Do they disappear if you remove the cartridge?

I wonder whether anyone has reverse-engineered the firmware.

Printers; Unintentional tells

@marnanel @emsenn Nothing color on the printer. Dots are in black and white just like everything else. There's no way for it to generate color.

I don't understand the question about the cartridge.

Printers; Unintentional tells

@ajroach42 @emsenn because the MIC is printed in yellow (on colour printers), so I've often wondered whether removing colour cartridges fools the system.
